Abstract

The proliferation of social media has been a transformative force in shaping political discourse across the globe. However, one of its most significant impacts has been the increasing political polarization within democratic societies. This paper explores the role digital platforms play in enhancing political divisions, examining mechanisms such as echo chambers, filter bubbles, and algorithmic biases. The analysis includes a review of relevant literature, discussing the implications of social media for democratic engagement, public opinion, and political participation. The paper concludes by assessing potential solutions to mitigate the negative effects of social media on political polarization and democracy.
