Abstract

This paper explores the impact of online learning platforms on student engagement and retention, which have become critical issues in the evolving educational landscape. The rise of online education has transformed traditional teaching methods and provided students with unprecedented access to resources. However, questions remain regarding the effectiveness of these platforms in promoting meaningful engagement and sustaining student retention. This study synthesizes current literature on online learning platforms, highlighting factors that influence student involvement, such as interaction, accessibility, content delivery, and support systems. Furthermore, it evaluates how these factors contribute to students' long-term retention in online courses. The findings suggest that while online learning platforms offer flexibility and convenience, student engagement and retention are significantly influenced by platform design, instructional strategies, and support systems. Recommendations for educators and platform developers are offered to enhance student outcomes.
